Andy's Fundraiser for the Royal Anglian Regiment Charity, cycling solo from Lands End to John O'Groats
On 11 April 2025, Andy Olby (Royal Anglian veteran) will embark on a solo cycling journey across the UK, from Land’s End in Cornwall to John O’Groats in Scotland.
His aim is to raise awareness and funds for the Royal Anglian Regiment Charity, which continues to support members of the Royal Anglian Regiment and their families.
Half way update from Andy
Andy served with the Royal Anglians for 16 years, in the 1st and 3rd Battalions. His service took him on three operational tours and deployments worldwide.
The Royal Anglian Regiment is a family, and we always prioritize supporting our friends and fellow soldiers above all else.
The Regiment lost personnel through conflict, injury, both physical and mental, and illness. Yet, the Royal Anglian Regiment has always stood by its own, providing unwavering support to those in need and their families when the unimaginable happens.
On 1 November 2024, we lost Shaun “Robbo” Roberts, a brave and selfless man who was taken from us after a tragic event. Robbo was the epitome of what it means to be an infantryman, a highly skilled sniper who consistently strived for excellence, often at the expense of his own well-being. He leaves behind a wife and four children who adored him, and his loss will never be replaced.
Attending Robbo’s funeral and witnessing how the Royal Anglian Regiment came together as a family in the wake of his death inspired me to undertake this journey. It reaffirmed the bond we share within the regiment, and how we stand by every single one of our own, no matter what.
This ride is for Robbo, for all those we’ve lost, and for those who continue to serve. I hope to raise both awareness and funds to support the families who are left behind and those still fighting to heal.
