3rd Battalion Preparing to Shine at Forthcoming Shooting Events

Over recent years, the 3rd Battalion’s shooting team has cemented its reputation as one of the finest in the British Army, achieving remarkable success in competitive shooting events and demonstrating the Regiment’s commitment to professionalism, discipline, and teamwork. They are currently four times Divisional Operational Shooting Competition (OSC) winners along with a host of other victories both home and abroad under their belts.

The shooting team has always been a source of pride for the Battalion, but the past four years have seen the team elevate its performance to unprecedented levels. This success is no accident; it is the result of rigorous training, exceptional leadership, and a culture that values marksmanship as a core skill. The team has consistently demonstrated that shooting is not just a competition but a vital military skill that underpins operational effectiveness.

As 2025 draws to a close, the 3rd Battalion shooting team shows has no intention of slowing down. With plans to compete in the upcoming Army Operational Shooting Competition and other international events in 2026, the Battalion is determined to build on its achievements and continue setting new standards of excellence.

Over the weekend of the 14 – 16 November the team selection for the 2026 competition season began on STANTA with Reservists from across the 3rd Battalion firing on the Annual Combat Marksmanship Tests (ACMT) on pistol and rifle.

Leadership and coaching continue to come from stalwarts of the team Capt Chambers and Warrant Officer Class Two Nash. They have not only been part of the victories over recent years but have been a core part of the team that has built the culture and discipline that has led to those victories.

As the Steelbacks continue to aim high, their story reminds us that excellence is not achieved overnight but through relentless effort, teamwork, and a commitment to being the best.
