Background: Chris was born on the 15th May 1987 in Ratby, a small village in Leicestershire, weighing 6 pounds 12½ ounces. At the age of 2 his sister Katie came along, who he doted on and fussed over very much. 8 years later, his younger brother Liam was born and then Nathan followed a few years after. As he grew up he joined the local village Beavers Club and then the Cubs, which he really enjoyed. Chris loved nothing more than being outdoors with his friends, he grew up loving sport, especially shooting and football and would often go to football matches with his mum and sister. He attended Ratby Primary School and Brookvale High School, in Leicestershire. Chris often talked about enlisting in the Army and when he was 17 he enquired about joining up. He did this when he turned 18, and was sent to Catterick to do his Infantry training. He loved every minute of it, especially shooting on the ranges. In September 2006, Chris passed out and all the family went, we all felt so proud. He changed from being a young boy to a man. Chris then joined the Royal Anglian Regiment; he quickly settled in and made some fantastic friends who he later described as ‘brothers’.
Army career: Chris enlisted in the Army at the age of 18, and did his Infantry training at Catterick. He passed out in September 2006, and joined the Royal Anglian Regiment. He served with the 1st Battalion on Operation HERRICK 6 in Afghanistan in 2007.
