Major PW Edwards Royal Anglian Regiment

Obituary for Major PW Edwards

Maj Peter William Edwards, late of The Royal Anglian Regiment, was born in Birmingham in 1935. He was educated at King Edward VI Grammar School, where he enjoyed many sports, including playing Rugby Sevens at Twickenham for England Schoolboys. He gained a place at Oxford to read History but turned this down after being inspired by an Army speaker at his school, in favour of the Royal Military College Sandhurst. He subsequently served in the Northamptonshire Regiment and The Royal Anglian Regiment in Gibraltar, Kenya and Malaya and also in Belfast at the height of the Troubles.

After leaving the Army, Peter started a financial business in Bristol and also commanded the Officer Training Corps at Bristol University. In 2001 he and his family moved to a farm in Suffolk where he found time to research into the Peninsular Wars and write three books: ‘Talavera’ and ‘Albuera’ have already been published; and his final book ‘Salamanca’ will be published posthumously.

Peter died on 15th May 2012 after a short illness and is survived by his wife Mandy and his six children and three grandchildren.
