One hundred years ago, on the 1st of March 1925, the Chapel of the Essex Regiment, and subsequently the Royal Anglian Regiment was formally Dedicated as the Essex Regiment Chapel. Much use has been made of the Chapel over the years. Services regularly take place on the first Sunday in the month, other than January, too close to New Year, and September, when the first Sunday sees a Regimental gathering at Duxford.
It is fortuitous that the first Sunday in March this year is the 2nd of March. A Service of Re-dedication will be held at the Chapel by way of the Centenary commemoration. The Lord Lieutenant and the Mayor Brentwood Borough Council will be present.
The Service will start at 11:00hrs. Weather permitting, an act of Rededication will take place outside the Chapel by the Dedication stone. Then we move into the Chapel itself. A number of RBL and Regimental Standards will be On Parade. Light refreshments will be available after the Service in the Army Reserve Centre, (ARC), next to the Chapel, and in which grounds, parking will be available.
The address of the Chapel is Clive Road, Warley, Brentwood. The ARC postcode for satnav purposes is CM13 3UJ.
For those of you who have not been there, the Chapel is steeped in Regimental History and holds the King’s Colours from the Territorial and Service Battalions of the Essex Regiment from the First World War.
