Members of 5 (Suffolk & Cambridgeshire) Company visit our Memorial

Members of 5 (Suffolk & Cambridgeshire) Company, Royal Anglian Regiment commemorated the Capture of Schwaben Redoubt, part of the Battle of the Somme, with a visit to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford and our Regimental memorial.

In October 1916, troops from the 1st Cambridgeshire Regiment took part in the capture of Schwaben Redoubt. Following the Haldane Reforms, the Territorial Force was formed in 1908, the following year the Cambridgeshires were constituted a separate regiment, with the title 1st Battalion, The Cambridgeshire Regiment. The Territorial Force was a part-time volunteer component of the British Army, created to augment British land forces without resorting to conscription it was a forerunner to the Army Reserve of today.
