It is with sadness that the Regiment announces the death of LCpl Julian Fernest.
Born in St Lucia, LCpl Fernest joined the British Army in 2019 and served with distinction as a soldier in the 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment. During his time with the 1st Battalion, he deployed on Operation RESCRIPT, supporting the NHS during the COVID-19 pandemic, and on Operation TIMBERN in Cyprus, providing force protection to British assets stationed on the island. He qualified as a Sniper and consistently displayed the highest standard of soldiering ability and leadership. Since 2024, LCpl Fernest has been posted to the 3rd Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment, as the Commanding Officer’s Driver.
Lt Col Ed Matts said “LCpl Fernest was a highly valued soldier in the Regiment and was truly respected and admired by all whom he crossed paths with. Having joined the Regiment in 2019, Julian immersed himself into becoming an invaluable member of our team and a true friend to so many. He was widely known as a highly capable and professional soldier and his unswerving positivity radiated through those that knew and worked with him”.
He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family.
