The Colonel of the Regiment’s Commendation is given to serving and former members and friends of the Regiment that uphold our ethos and have demonstrated selfless commitment and dedication in the service of the Regimental Family.

This a new award but will continue and commendations will be presented at the Regimental Gathering in the years to come.

Colonel of the Regiment’s Commendation 2025

Melissa Kozlenko

Melissa has supported the Regiment with her very calm, professional and well-planned approach to the recent temporary closure of the Regimental Museum at Duxford. In a challenging environment with changing timelines and constraints, she has achieved everything necessary to ensure the security and wellbeing of our historically important artefacts and documents. Both the main and reserve collections were relocated, and she has pioneered and taken a firm lead at the very new but promising temporary display which will be on show until completion of the new Museum location at Duxford. Melissa is a fantastic ambassador for the Regiment at the IWM and she remains passionate and vital about telling our story to us within the Regiment and to the wider public.

Glen Keeble

Glen Keeble joined the Royal Anglian Regiment in September 1976 and has served with the Regiment for 48 years, which is a worthy achievement. Following initial training he joined 3 Royal Anglian, The Pompadours, as well as serving with The Vikings, The Bermuda Regiment, 6 and 7 Royal Anglian, The East of England Regiment and finally in back to the Steelbacks as a reservist in 1999 where he served until, he left in October 2024. We are here to recognise Glen’s long and selfless dedication to the Regiment outside everyday work life as a reservist. He, and his charming wife Sandra, have both been essential supporting the Regimental Gathering since 2001 until this year at Duxford. Glen practical expertise and leadership was well suited to venue site management ensuring our Gatherings went ahead safely and without hitch. He has a talent for coordinating and sequencing a variety of outside and internal concerns ensuring set up goes to plan. His dedication and support to the Regiment is hugely appreciated and his experience, energy and leadership will be greatly missed.

Chris Headland

Chris Headland served in the Poachers for a full soldier career from 1986 to 2009 with tours of duty on operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Northern Ireland and many postings and exercises abroad, though not least in Germany at Trenchard Barracks for the start of his career. The Poachers at this time shaped and forged his passion for its people and our history. His time as Mess Sgt in the Officers; and then Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants Mess gave him the opportunity to deepen his knowledge and impart it on other members. It is for this and Chris’ tireless and voluntary support to our veterans that we recognise him today. On leaving the Army he has been a de facto ‘Pl Sgt’ for many of our people in Lincolnshire and beyond, ensuring those who are in need, hardship and distress are bought to the attention of other family members and us at RHQ. He manages the Poachers Facebook page a very large forum which keeps its members up to date on news and events. He was very helpful for us at RHQ assisting with a recent silver audit. His wife Ange also deserves great credit for her photography in support of Regimental events. Both Ange and Chris provide excellent practical, seemingly ceaseless and tangible support to the Regimental and Poacher Family without which we would be far worse off.

CSgt (Now WO2) Dean Kimpton

CSgt (Now WO2) Dean Kimpton has wholeheartedly dedicated his expertise and time assisting with Regimental social media digital communications. Al this, over and above his day job as a company sergeant major in the Poachers, so for those of us who know will recognise his tremendous commitment. He has supported our communication mission by protecting, supporting and celebrating the work that the Regiment has delivered with a highly competent and faultless approach. He has captured imagery and stories that portray the Regiment in the most positive way, essential in attracting future soldiers into our Battalions. His huge support and advocacy for our Regiment has seen a great improvement in our important social media presence. Furthermore, he spends time training others in this relatively new, but important part of our environment which is commendable.

Colonel of the Regiment’s Commendation 2025

Brigadier Richard Lyne

Brigadier Lyne receives his commendation for his hugely important support and work for the Regiment throughout his Army career and beyond. A very successful professional career characterised with a commission in 1987 to leaving as a Brigadier in 2023 and in those 36 years Brigadier Richard had many successful appointments and operational tours, not least as CO of the Steelbacks from 2011 to 2013, with a whole unit deployment on Op Tosca, quite the accolade for a reserve battalion. In addition to his duty to the Army he has served the Regiment with total dedication and always selflessly. As Deputy Colonel of the Regiment for the Steelbacks he provided advice and mentorship for several commanding officers well into his retirement and new career as a director for Turner and Townsend. He also took on Regimental Council roles leading recruiting and retention and is significant in ensuring this Regiment optimised its part in this current recruiting process, our healthy state of recruiting is testament to this. Finally, his leadership in his role as the lead at Council for the Cadets has been remarkable, expanding badged R ANGLIAN ACF and CCFs organisations and improving communication and links with the Regiment. He concludes his tenure in the Council in October, and he will be sorely missed.

Lt Col Tony Powell

Lt Col Tony Powell receives his commendation for a whole host of superlatives. 60 years in service to the Regiment since joining the Army and the Regiment in 1965, rising to the rank of Lt Col before the end of his Army career in 2001 and the two top jobs, RSM as a soldier and then a commanding officer at Sennelager Training Centre for the latter part of his officer career. In that time, he deployed to Northern Ireland on numerous occasions for short and residential tours as well as operational tours in Bosnia and Kosovo. Notable are Tony’s appointments outside the Army, he was Deputy Commander of the Army Training Estate East at STANTA, a home location well suited for a passionate Viking soldier and officer. Tony has supported the Regiment as a trustee of our Museum until last year, and was involved right from the start of its inception in the mid-90s. He is also the Royal Norfolk Association treasurer.
He is commended for his dedication and duty to the Regiment, while serving and as a veteran. He was an exemplary soldier and a truly inspiring leader, his soldiers trusted him always, often in difficult circumstances. Tony is passionate about our great Regiment and its people, he has and continues to make it a priority in much of his life. He is a significant part of the foundation of this great Regiment, and the person many of us, in either senior or junior positions, go to for advice. His mentorship and guidance are always measured, well considered and comes from a deep knowledge and experience of the Army, understanding people and what is best for us all. For his service we are truly grateful.
