Regimental Units

1st Battalion,
‘The Vikings’

The First Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment ‘The Vikings’. We predominately recruit from the counties of Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire but are open to all that wish to become part of our Regimental Family.

We are a highly professional Infantry Battalion and along with the 2nd Battalion (Regular Army) and the 3rd Battalion (Army Reserve) are part of The Royal Anglian Regiment.

We are trained and prepared to deploy on a variety of operations in the UK and across the globe.

The Regiment's family background and connections into the community are important to us and we welcome new soldiers and officers to our Battalion with open arms.

2nd Battalion,
‘The Poachers’

The Second Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment ‘The Poachers’ is a Light Mechanised Infantry Battalion who recruit from across the East of England (Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Rutland). This strong link and our county heritage forms the basis of our five Companies.

Based at Kendrew Barracks, Rutland, ‘The Poachers’ are located right in the heartland of their recruiting area. ‘The Poachers’ are part of 7th Infantry Brigade and 1st (UK) Division – the British Army’s Adaptable Force who are optimised for challenges of today, both in the UK and abroad.

3rd Battalion, ‘The Steelbacks’

The 3rd Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment ‘The Steelbacks’ is an Army Reserve Light Infantry Battalion made up of terrific Soldiers and Civilians. Our Headquarters is in the heart of Suffolk in Bury St Edmunds, we have sub units located throughout East Anglia and in the East Midlands.

Our Reserve Soldiers come from many walks of life and civilian occupations, coming together to make a dynamically capable team. Integration with Regimental Headquarters and our sister Regular Battalion all focus on integrating 3 Royal Anglian as part of the Regimental Family.
