Background: After leaving school Martin served 12 months as an apprentice mechanic. 

Army career: On leaving his civilian job Martin enlisted in Cambridge and joined the Army as a Junior Leader at St John Moore Barracks Shorncliffe.

Once he completed his training as a Junior Leader, he joined B Company The 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment and deployed with them to Northern Ireland.

Date of death: 22/09/1985

Circumstances: Martin was killed while serving on operations in Northern Ireland.

Resting place: Cambridge Cemetery, Newmarket Road.
