Obituary for Private Lee Creak
Private Lee Creak, who died at the age of 27 on 4th October 2015 after a short but brave battle with cancer, was a proud and popular Viking. He enlisted on 4th October 2009, and began his service in the Royal Anglian Regiment in April 2010, initially joining C (Essex) Company. He deployed on exercise to Kenya twice, in 2011 and 2014, as part of Ex ASKARI THUNDER, and performed to the highest standard whilst operating in this arduous environment.
Pte Creak was a steadfast Viking, and a calming influence on all who knew him. His tenacity and courage were illustrated to the highest degree when he deployed as a General Purpose Machine Gunner to Afghanistan on Op HERRICK 16, in the summer of 2012. This was a dangerous tour, that tested Lee to the limits, and he was not found wanting. After his tour of duty, Pte Creak successfully passed the mortar executive’s cadre, achieving top student, and quickly became an excellent Mortarman. Whilst serving in the platoon, he found his niche, and excelled at mastering the 81mm weapon system.
Pte Creak, who grew up in Ely, Cambridge was also a family man, who was survived by his mother, father, two brothers, and sister. Pte Creak had a full military funeral, held at St Mary’s Church in Ely, and was packed to full capacity with well wishers, both military and civilian. This showed Lee’s popularity both at work, and within his local community.
Pte Lee Creak was a true gentleman and deeply respected by his peers and friends alike. He will be sorely missed by all, and his memory lives on in The Royal Anglian Regiment.
