Private Daniel Rose

Obituary for Private Daniel Rose

Private Daniel Rose joined the Infantry Training Centre Catterick In August 2022. He impressed his training team with a positive attitude and a clear desire to succeed. His approachable nature and caring character were immediately apparent, and he quickly made close friends in his section and across the platoon. Dan had been noted by his training team as someone with true grit and determination; as the course continued, these characteristics remained.

Dan was a highly resilient individual and it was clear to all that he would not give up, regardless of his fatigue. Through his will to succeed, he worked hard in his spare time to develop himself conceptually to ensure his professional competence, in eager preparation for his arrival at the 1st Battalion, the Royal Anglian Regiment. He displayed a level of mental robustness and maturity that is rare to see in someone so new to the Army.

Dan was an inherently positive person. He was able to lift the morale of his section with ease. It was clear that he was a key member of the platoon and other recruits naturally gravitated towards him. He would help those around him when they were struggling, showing an inherent selflessness. There is little doubt that Dan would have become a strong junior leader in time. His emotional intelligence and drive were such promising qualities.

Those of us fortunate to know and work with Dan enjoyed his laughter and sharp sense of humour. The tragic loss of a great person and soldier with so much potential leaves an irreplaceable hole. He had a bright career ahead of him.

Private Daniel Rose was laid to rest at Poole Crematorium, Tuesday 6 June 2023. The service was presided over by The Reverend, Padre Matthew Dietz and attended by members of his family and the Regiment.
