Kenneth (Kenny) Nunn

Obituary for Kenneth (Kenny) Nunn

Kenny died at his Ipswich home on 9 July 2014, aged 79. Kenny had suffered a number of years from failing health, he attended as many events as he was able but he was limited by his ability to walk any distance.

Kenny was a well known, well liked member of the Ipswich Branch and the number of members at his funeral was a measure of the respect and affection in which he was held. Kenny came from a large family with almost all the males going into the building trade. Kenny was one of life’s characters; he never married and liked a drink and a bet. If things at work were not to his liking he was not averse to handing in his notice on a Friday but he was such a good bricklayer that his trowel would be working for another firm by Monday morning.

Kenny was called up for his National Service (1955/56) serving in 1st Battalion, The Suffolk Regiment. After training at Bury St Edmunds, he was posted to Germany and then to Cyprus where he served during the EOKA terrorist campaign.

I grew up on the same housing estate as Kenny and some of our members, we all knew Kenny as a schoolboy, but an even bigger number knew him through the building trade. There was more to Kenny than was obvious; he was extremely knowledgeable about world affairs and politics. He will be sorely missed by the Branch and his extended family.
