The move of the regimental museum within the Duxford site is now planned for February 2025, when the Land Warfare hall where it is currently located will be closed for demolition.
The new site for the museum will be in what is the current Airspace Hangar near the entrance.
To reconfigure this for its new exhibition theme ‘Past WWII and Cold War Conflict’ will take some considerable time so therefore, the Royal Anglian Regiment museum will have a temporary space within Airspace whilst this work is continuing.
As you can imagine, the planning for the move of the regimental museum is complex and relies heavily on collaboration with IWM Duxford so that we can maintain a presence whilst the upheaval entailed continues.
In conjunction with the temporary exhibition space, the office and storage facilities will also move, likely in early 2025, from their current location by Hangar 4 at Duxford to the North side of the site, across the main road, and will be co-located with the Airborne Forces office and stores there.
The museum trustees are also at an advanced planning stage for the new and permanent museum space with consultants designs now received and investigating how we best utilise the space to bring the museum up to date and relevant to the regiment. Once these designs are finalised, we will be consulting with various focus groups including serving members of the regiment and veterans to ensure that the museum truly represents everything we hold dear about our regiment, past and present and that it clearly demonstrates the enormous contribution that it makes to the Army and society as a whole.
Quite a task all in all, so please bear with us while these changes take place and please, come along and support the museum, chat to our curator and our volunteers as we always value your opinions on everything we do.
