Background: Tom was born in Ipswich while his father was Adjutant of the 4th Battalion The Suffolk Regiment.
He attended prep school in Kashmir, while his father was serving with the Suffolk Regiment, and completed his education at Greshams School and RMAS Sandhurst.
Tom was a keen member of the British Schools Exploring Society and while a serving soldier somehow fitted in three long exploring expeditions. He was chief leader of two of these, in one leading a group of schoolboys across Newfoundland.
Army Career: Commissioned into The Suffolk Regiment, Thomas joined the 1st Battalion in Malaya in early 1952, served with them in Trieste and Cyprus and then, following in his father’s footstep, he became Adjutant of the 4th Battalion.
In October 1978 Tom took Command of the 6th (Volunteer) Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment which he commanded with his usual flair and enthusiasm.
Date of death: 25/04/1988
Circumstance: Thomas died of cancer wile serving with the Regiment in the UK.
