Local tribal leaders over look work being carried out by British Royal Engineer’s to increase water flow to 5000 people in the upper Sangin Valley.

Operation Lastay Kulang was launched to removing Taliban forces from the Upper Sangin Valley.

A total of 2000 ISAF and ANSF personnel are taking part in the operation, 1000 of those being drawn from British forces namely the 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment and elements of the 1st Battalion The Grenadier Guards who are providing Operational Mentoring to Afghan National Army troops. The British led Helmand Task Force also involves troops from Denmark and Estonia supported by elements of the American 82nd Airborne Division.

The UK-led Task Force Helmand has carried out a number of recent operations in the province. Last month’s Operation Silver removed the Taliban influence from the town of Sangin. Two weeks ago Operation Silicon was launched to allow the Islamic Government of Afghanistan to take control of the town of Gereshk and much of the surrounding countryside
