Background: Michael was educated at The Hall School, Hampstead, and at Brighton College. He represented the latter at rugby football, cross country and athletics. 

Army career: He gained a Short Service Commission from Mons Officer Cadet School in February 1972 and joined The 2nd Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment in Germany. He served with The 2nd Battalion in Germany, Northern Ireland.

In 1973 he served for eight months at the Junior Infantry Wing, Preston, and in 1974 joined the Sultan’s Armed Forces in Oman. During an operation in January 1975 he was awarded the Sultan of Oman’s Distinguished Service Medal for Gallantry.

Date of death: 08/03/1975

Circumstances: Michael was killed in action in Dhofar when the helicopter in which he was carrying out reconnaissance was shot down.

Resting place: Aldershot Military Cemetery.
