Obituary for Mr L Faiers
I am very saddened to have to inform you of the passing of our friend and comrade Len Faiers. Len died on Monday evening 4th July with his family at his bedside.
22676583 Cpl Leonard Geoffrey Faiers enlisted into the Army on 5th June 1952. After his basic training he was posted to the Royal Engineers as a clerk in the Postal Directorate HQ Northern Army Group. His barracks at Bad Oeynhausen. During his service he attained the Rank of Cpl, promoted on 10th December 1953.
Len was with the Postal Directorate for his full service and left on 27 June 1954.
He then joined the Army Emergency Reserve and did a further three and a half years. He really enjoyed his service life and often talked of the good days. Len was finally discharged from the part time service on 1st December 1957. Len then had a civil career as a postman and often met with his old work mates when he retired.
For Len’s family life he met Audrey in 1952. They married on 2nd of June 1956 and were blessed with three wonderful children. We celebrated Len and Audrey’s 60th wedding anniversary with all their friends and family just few days before Len passed away. I will always remember that special day filled with love and emotion from so many wonderful friends. I would like to thank David, Susan and Hannah for the help they have given me and for the help given to Audrey at this very difficult time. Family is everything.
Personally I have known Len for many years and have never heard him have a bad word. He was a real gentleman and one of the Suffolk Regiment’s best supporters. He enjoyed his weekly game of crib at the Bramford British Legion and never missed a week except his last. Len often returned to Germany for his holidays near Baden-Baden as he loved it so much. He was the treasurer of the Felixstowe Branch for many years and would often carry the Standard at a moment’s notice. Len will be sorely missed by us all.
We all send our love, support and prayers to Audrey, Susan, David, Hannah, Mathew and all in the Faiers family.
Rest in eternal peace.
Thank’s for your friendship mate.
The crematorium was overflowing with friends and guard of honour standing. The standards represented were from Felixstowe, Stowmarket, Ipswich, Leiston plus the Royal Army Medical Corps and the Bramford Royal British Legion.
Last post was played by Felixstowe Branch member Mr Phil Hubert. Many thanks to all OCA that made Lens family so proud.
