Obituary for Corporal Roy Egmore

Roy, who served in A (Royal Norfolk) Coy, 6 (V) Bn the Royal Anglian Regt in the 1980’s, passed away on Friday 15th August 2013 after a long illness aged 66.

He was an invaluable, steady, reliable and most efficient Command Post signaller. Roy’s Celebration of Life Service at St Faith’s crematorium on 3 September 2013, was conducted by Civil Celebrant Julie Bates, was very well attended, the chapel overflowing with standing room only. A be-medalled number of former 4 Royal Norfolk and A (Royal Norfolk) Coy, 6 (V) Bn the Royal Anglian Regiment were present in respect of a fine comrade: Lt Col Miles Green, Majors John Davidson TD, John L Raybould TD and Richard Watson TD, Capt Alan Debenham TD, WO2 Pat Budds TEM, CSgts Herbie Burton TEM and Peter Whitwell TEM, Sgt Vic Turner TEM and Cpl Ted Guy TEM. The casket was draped with a yellow flag bearing the Royal Norfolk badge of Britannia. (With grateful thanks to Cosseys of Beccles for taking the flag to Bartram & Son in Dereham.)

A moving eulogy was given by Civil Celebrant Julie Bates. The entry music was ‘The Dambusters March’ played by The Central Band of the Royal Air Force, the period of reflection music was ‘Amazing Grace’ played by The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards and the exit music was ‘Foot Tapper’ played by The Shadows. Among the floral tributes was a Regimental wreath from A (Norfolk and Suffolk) Coy 3 Royal Anglian – The Steelbacks – the successor Reserve Forces Coy.

Roy spent his working life in agriculture and is survived by his wife Pauline, children Jane, Paul and Stephen, grandchildren Kira, Cameron and Heather.
