Exercise HIGH RISE POACHER - 2nd Battalion Train to Fight in an Urban Environment

B ‘Leicestershire’ Company, 2nd Battalion, The Royal Anglian Regiment recently took part in Exercise HIGHRISE POACHER.

The exercise was supported by multiple branches of specialists across the Army.

The exercise utilised a 10-storey structure in the Killingbeck district of Leeds, due for demolition and provided an opportunity to conduct training within a non-sterile environment. West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service partnered with the Company to provide ladders for access to the building.

The focus of the exercising troops was to conduct urban insertion and clearance skills that otherwise cannot be trained, such as; irregular breaching and sub-terranean insertion. The exercise was an overwhelming success and demonstrated the ability for the Company and Battalion to link in with multiple specialists to achieve mission success.
