TRIBUTES TO SOLDIERS KILLED IN AFGHANISTAN

 

The two links below are to articles in this morning’s East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star. They are tributes to Aaron McClure and John Thrumble. Ten years ago today, Aaron McClure, John Thrumble and Robert Foster died serving with B (Suffolk) Company of the 1st Battalion in Afghanistan.

All our soldiers who have died on duty will be remembered at the Drumhead Service at our Regimental Memorial on the Regimental Day on Sunday 3rd September 2017.

DEATH OF LEONARD EDWARD LOADER

 

The Regiment regrets to inform you of the death of WO1 Leonard Edward Loader aged 90 years. Leonard served with the Royal Leicestershire Regiment from 1945 to 1968 and saw active service towards the end of World War 2, Korea and Malaya.

Letters of condolence can be sent to Leonard’s son Kevin Loader, 50 Mayfield Street, Kirkby in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, NG17 8LW. Details of his funeral will follow, but it is likely to be on the 24th August.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Leonard’s family and friends at this sad and difficult time.

DEATH OF MICK FAULKNER

 

The Regiment regrets to inform you of the death of Mick Faulkner after a short battle with cancer. Mick served in the 5th and 6th (V) Battalions of the Regiment, parading with his Platoon at Vange Camp in the 80's and 90's reaching the rank of LCpl. Later in his TA career he rebadged RAMC but continued to be attached to his first love The Royal Anglian Regiment. Mick leaves a daughter Louisa, son-in-law Lee and his two grandchildren Jade and Craig.

Mick’s funeral will take place at Pitsea Crematorium, Church Rd, Bowers Gifford, Basildon SS13 2HG at 13.20 on 23rd August 2017, to which all of his old comrades are invited to attend, and are asked to wear berets and blazers if possible. The family have ask that donations should be made to the RBL Poppy Appeal.

 

The thoughts and prayers of the Regiment are with Billy’s family and friends at this sad and difficult time.

DEATH OF WILLIAM JOHN CHAPMAN

 

The Regiment regrets to inform you of the death of William John Chapman (Bill/Billy) of Horsham St Faiths at the age of 96 on 5th August 2017, Billy served with The Royal Norfolk Regiment and was a FEPOW, one of the last British survivors of Japan's notorious wartime Death Railway in Burma.

The funeral service will be at 1100hrs Thu 7th September 2017 at The Church of Saint Mary and Saint Andrew, 4 Church Street, Horsham St Faith, Norwich, NR10 3JJ. The service will be followed by a wake at Elm Farm Country House, 55 Norwich Road, Horsham St Faith, Norwich, NR10 3HH. Billy lived in the village all his life and his final journey will take him past all the houses lived in and places where he drank.

Letters of condolence can be sent his daughter, Mary Chapman, 16 Harbour Road, Norwich, NR1 1HN

ROYAL ANGLIAN REGIMENT DAY 2017

 

The Regimental Day will take place at The Imperial War Museum, Duxford on 3rd September 2017.

 

Programme of Events

All members of our Regimental family are welcomed to their Regimental Day. Music for the day is kindly provided by the Band of the Royal Anglian Regiment and the Corps of Drums of the Essex ACF. The outline timings are:

•0930 hrs Gates Open.

•1100 hrs Muster for Drumhead Service, please be seated by 1115 hours.

•1120 hrs Standards March On.

•1130 hrs Drumhead Service at the Regimental Memorial.

•1230 hrs Bars and Stalls open, picnic tables will be available.

•1300 hrs Musical Recital by the Regimental Band in the picnic area.

•1500 hrs Flag Lowering Ceremony at the Regimental Memorial.

•1700 hrs Bars and Stalls close.
Those attending are made aware that there will be no Beating of the Retreat but a simple Flag Lowering ceremony at the Regimental Memorial to which all are
