Robert Blomfield was commissioned into the Honourable Artillery Company in 1973 and has been a member of the HAC for over fifty years. He commanded the HAC Gun Troop and then, after a period with HQ 3rd Armoured Division, commanded ‘A’ (Highwood) Company of the 8th Battalion the Queen’s Fusiliers. He served as a SO2 at Joint HQ during Op Granby (1st Gulf War) and had two tours in Bosnia as a SO1 in HQ ARRC.
As a civilian he practised as a solicitor and was subsequently appointed a district judge and later a Crown Court Recorder, eventually retiring from the Bench in 2010.
Since retiring he has served as the Honorary Legal Adviser to and on the management committee of Northamptonshire SSAFA, Chairman of Northamptonshire and a vice chairman of East Midlands RFCA, committee member of the Mobbs Memorial annual rugby fixture which is played against the British Army. He is also a member of the Northampton Military Covenant Committee and, in tandem with the Lord Lieutenant and the High Sheriffs, is a keen supporter of our military cadet organisations. He is currently working with Northamptonshire Police in connection with their youth gang culture and knife crime initiative.
Robert lives in Northamptonshire with Helene and has a son (who also served in the HAC), two daughters and four grown up grandchildren. He is a season ticket holder at Northampton Saints Rugby Club and is a member of the Northamptonshire County Golf Club.
