County Colonel: Col Charles Thomas TD DL

Colonel Thomas joined the 5th Battalion of the Royal Anglian Regiment in 1975. After service as a Private, Officer Cadet and Platoon Commander, he  volunteered for  a Short Service Volunteer Commission with the Regular Army. This included attendance at the Regular Platoon Commanders’ Course and  an attachment to the 1st Battalion, during which he commanded a Platoon for an operational tour in Belfast in 1979. He returned to the 5th Battalion, serving until 1991 as Rifle Platoon Commander, Mortar Platoon Commander, Company Second-in-Command, Company Commander of 3 (Essex) Company, and Battalion Second-in-Command.  In 1991, he was appointed SO2(V) at HQ 54th (East Anglia)Brigade with a responsibility for Officer Cadet training.  In 1993 he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and was selected to command the 6th Battalion. After handing over command in 1996 he was appointed Commandant of the Essex Army Cadet Force, an appointment he held until 2001. He was elected Chairman of the Essex Forum, Reserve Forces & Cadets Association in 2002. He is also Chairman of the Regimental Chapel Committee and was appointed County Colonel for Essex in 2015.

Regimental Chapel

The Regimental Chapel of The Royal Anglian Regiment and The Essex Regiment, Eagle Way, Warley, Essex CM13 3BN

Monthly Services are routinely held on the first Sunday of each month starting at 1100hrs.
